Folks,
Sorry for the silence for the last couple of weeks. We have an upgrade to the
UK Column website coming tomorrow. The site will be out of action for a short time in the morning.
Once complete, comments will be welcome.
Cheers,
Mike.
Using Firefox as my browser - (none of that extra MS stuff, OS is bad enough)
here are my first observations
Page is wider than my screen - i dont like cross scrolling
Left margin is zero - i dont like pages without a margin
images on right are good- i like the Cameron one
Brian Gerrish events - no links to venues or any further info
Overall page is good
how about a menu bar above TODAY'S NEWS to link to todays news, documents, campaigns and events
Todays news contains 3days of items
Hope this helps

Website breaks width of 1020x768 resolution and now the css file is broken, if you want, i can build you a website with drupal, you can take a look at my work here

I've been working with Content Management Systems and Unix for the last decade, my offer of help is extended to you if you need or want it. I'm a big fan of the UK column and admire Brian's conviction in getting things exposed and out there.

Unless I have missed it, you need a bar or tab for the "UK Column Discussion" page(s) - as there is no obvious indication that you have one as far as i can see.
Hello Mike,
I like the way we now have interesting items listed on the home Page as it's easier to see what goes on within the site. Love the cameron piccy!, Wondered where the link to go to the Forum had disappeared to?
Also it's helpful to know what events, meetings, dates etc. there are as you have now shown them on the home page. I prefer this to the previous one. I think it would look better with a small piccy to top left of the page as an attention grabber. Maybe ones like the Cameron one changing each month/week or whatever.
Anyway I like it better than the previous one. Regards ann
Peter, Waggy,
Thanks for the comments. I stupidly forgot about a link to the forums. Duh.
Waterleat,
Today's News changed to News Headlines, thanks.
Owl,
Well, the css is certainly not broken. It doesn't validate 100%, I grant you, because of three opacity statements for the article images, but I'm not too worried about that. That's a great website you've built there, by the way.
A couple of people have mentioned the width, so I narrowed it up again. Most people by far that visit have screens 1280 or wider, so I thought I'd give it a go and gauge reaction.
A number of people have said they like the Cameron image - I like the idea, but I wasn't able to do a very good job of it. We need to get a better version of the source image, which we think came from the Daily Mail. Actually Brian photographed the page. I've never seen that image online, so if anyone knows where we could track down a decent quality version of it, we'd be very grateful.
Morning Mike,
I have changed my screen settings to allow me to view all without scrolling and, as a short-sighted reader, find that the text is now too small for me to read comfortably.
Perhaps a visit to my optician is necessary if others aren't experiencing the same problems.
Thanks for all your hard work.

Hi
Just a thought, I use 'firefox' & 'opera' browsers, alternating between the two. Like you, I sometimes find the text on some sites too small, I just increase the text size from within the browser. Apologies if you've already tried this, just thought it may help as I know how irritating small text is.
Anyway, all the best
Rob

There only seems to be one post in the queue. How many is "all"?
I've released it.
